In Pakistani universities, credit hours represent the number of hours a student spends in the classroom or laboratory each week during a 16 to 18-week semester.
- Theory Classes: 1 credit hour = 1 hour of classroom lecture per week. A standard 3-credit course means 3 hours of lectures weekly.
- Lab/Practical Classes: 1 credit hour = 3 hours of laboratory work per week. A 4-credit course with a lab often means 3 hours of theory + 3 hours of practicals.
- Degree Total: A standard 4-year BS degree requires the completion of 124 to 140 total credit hours as per HEC guidelines.

GPA (Grade Point Average) is the average of grade points earned per credit hour. According to HEC guidelines:
GPA = ฮฃ (Credit Hours ร Grade Points) รท Total Credit Hours
Each subject has a grade (A, B, C, etc.) which corresponds to a grade point (4.0, 3.0, 2.0, etc.). Multiply the grade point by the credit hours to get the quality points for that subject.
